About

German artist Verena Caroline Kloos believes in the transformative power of art. Her work is inspired not just by the rich diversity that she experiences through her travels but also by that profound immaterial silence that attends to an oddity or an unusual site or experience. What another witness of a particular place or moment might feel but not be able to express, Kloos captures through her work. Art for her is an exploration, an extracting of the memorable essences and traces of time in the always evanescent moment.

Known as a meticulous researcher with a deep analytical mindset during her time as President of BMW Group Designworks, Kloos brings that same disciplined eye to bear on her mixed media creations. Her unique approach to art and design helped Kloos distinguish herself as a creative leader with a deep understanding of the history of design. From mobile concepts to future-focused solutions and creative visions, her success in the luxury industry reflects her awareness that an expertly-crafted, harmoniously created piece, has a timeless quality that defies trends. She brings that same aesthetic sensibility to her artwork. Whether depicting the abstracts of life, of memories, of emotions, her informal abstractions, convey what she describes as “the impulses that come from visual fragments . . . how they remain in our memories as fading signs and symbols of a time that has passed.”

Kloos received her Masters of Design from the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig. She divides her life and creative work between Germany and the United States (California) and continues to travel the world to draw inspiration and creative energy from that vast tapestry of cultural diversity.

In 2018/2019 Kloos’ work has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art Beijing, ART FAIR Beijing, AD ART SHOW NYC, Mark Rothko ART CENTRE, Latvia, Pashmin Gallery Hamburg, Art Show Leipzig, and Das Blaue Haus in Diessen/Germany. In 2020 her art part of the groupshow European Art at The Chongqing ART Museum and in April she will have a solo show at the Orangerie Munich. Her art can be found in private collections in Germany, the UK, and California.

VCKay – Verena C. Kloos | Artist’s Statement

My art reflects my affinity for informal abstraction. My mixed media paintings, assemblages, and photographs depict perspectives of familiar and unfamiliar places, of unique and unusual situations, the moments, spaces, and things that manifest as flickers at the periphery of context. I am inspired as much by the transient artifacts of life as I am by tactile illusions and weathered-surface topology.

My eye is drawn toward the immaterial silence of oddities and unusual scenes, the fecund essence of life, of memory, of emotions. I’m a meticulous researcher with an extensive background in high-end design and I believe in the transformative power of art and aspire to create works that change one’s point of view.

I paint, I make photographs, and I create assemblages that are inspired by my fascination with the surface sensuality of unfamiliar landscapes and territories.
